Today I Remember

Today I remember.

I sit beside her grave and ponder a day long gone.

It’s quiet here.

The morning breeze whispers in my ear.

An azure canopy encloses me in a peaceful embrace.

A distant whippoorwill calls to his mate.

The November sun softly presses warm rays against my face.

My lawn chair holds me snug, relaxed and waiting.

I hear her voice!

She speaks across the vastness of unknown space,

She calls from a distant land in loving tones,

words too precious to disregard.

quietly she murmurs words of deep affection.

It is a language without sound, vivid in meaning!

“Do you remember?”

“Indeed I do”, I quickly answered.

And so it began, our sharing about that day so long ago.

It has been one long year,

myriad days and nights passing one by one,

since Beth left me for a new and beautiful land.

She departed so quickly, without warning.

In a flash she was gone!

In an unguarded moment she slipped away.

In the days that followed we tenderly cared for her body;

with dignity and grace we laid her in her resting place,

with a beautiful stone to mark her body’s sepulcher.

We wept.

But since the day she departed

each bedtime hour has announced our talking time,

the setting for our sharing life here and there.

And thus began a new adventure,

the blending of Heaven and Earth through just us two.

Oh, how precious is she to me,

as she testifies her own love for me,

and I in turn respond in kind.

We learn of each other’s walk alone.

We hear  of the wonders of God’s glorious paradise.

We name the activities of our days apart.

We look forward to our beloved reunion.

“It was just one year ago

when life changed forever for both of us.

“It has been a year of precious loving and learning.

“The future holds great promise till that wonderful day

when our spirits are rejoined with Eternity in store,

and God’s astounding promise is fulfilled for us forever.

“Till then, my love, may your days be meaningful and joyous,

as we both rejoice in our evening tryst.

“You are truly the dearest one to me

     surpassing all others,

      the very dearest one!

“I love you beyond all others!

“We are bound together in faith,

held together in Christian love,

moving together into a future,

     comforted, protected and guided

     by our loving  Heavenly Father.

“At this close of our first year apart,

what a blessing is mine because

     of you, my love!”
