The Enemy Within

There is a battle being waged

in many a life today,

As all of us try to live a life

that lets us live our way.

To be what we want to be, our goal,

to do what we want to do.

But let us remember,  it is a fact,

we can lose, with years too few!

When all at once we find ourselves

with choices, and lose our way,

as we buy and light a cigarette,

in a tragic game we play.

We feel it gives us much new strength,

as we light  again and again.

The months go by, the years they press.

We are lost in an endless span!

We know for sure that we are hooked

to a habit that has us tied.

No matter our choice on what to do,

our way has taken our stride.

The nicotine has plundered our hopes,

has burglarized our dreams.

With no where to turn, we plunge along,

adrift on a flooding stream.

For you who know you have lost your way,

there is hope, as yet unseen,

when the tide is out, you can walk alone

toward  victory so serene.

There are those  so willing to take your hand,

Assist you to safer shores.

Reach out and grasp that hope you feel,

‘twill save you for ever more!
