Summer Bliss

The winter has been cold,

with blowing snow and drifts so deep,

and winds that sway the trees,

and wistle as they pass.

The season’s chill we fought

with piles of logs sawed right

to fit our warming stove.

But all the winter’s rage

makes summer’s coming such a treat.

As sunny rays bring on the pleasant days,

with now a sweet embrace,

with season’s change!

The bliss of summer brings

so many gifts.

The April showers give drink

to dormant seeds within the soil, asleep,

awaken, now begin to grow!

The green grass springs forth,

and soon the flowers bloom.

The trees explode with greening splendor,

branches stretching far and wide!

The soft cumulus set off the azure blue,

the gentle breeze, cooling the heat of day.

We sit a while, enjoy the summer bliss.

How thankful we can be

when summer comes,

with all its friendly gifts of peace and calm.
